Elizabeth was a normal princess who was in love with a prince. Not soon after her castle is destroyed, her clothes are burned and her prince was taken by the dragon that destroyed her life. Elizabeth was furious and decided to go save her prince. This was her first rebellious act. Elizabeth, a princess, decided to go save Ronald, her prince. When I read this book as a young girl this was the first story I came across where the girl went to save the guy. Elizabeth is a strong-minded, determined, angry, intelligent woman who knows what she wants and will not let anything get in her way. Elizabeth finds the dragon's lair and uses her intelligence to outsmart the dragon by playing into his need to prove that he can do extreme feats. She tricked him into burning forests (50+) and flying around the world in seconds. Elizabeth baited the dragon to over-extend himself proving he could do the things Elizabeth said she didn't think he could do. By using her brain, wits, and intelligence she tricked the dragon into wearing himself out in order to save her prince. I believe Elizabeth is a rebel because she is a princess that cares more about rescuing and keeping her loved ones safe than what she looks like doing it. Her prince told her to go away and come back to save him when she looks like a real princess. Instead of feeling the need to please her male companion, she decided she didn't need a prince that cared more about her looks than her ability to accomplish things. Elizabeth gave more value to what kind of person someone is on the inside instead of what they looked like. She chose to walk away from her prince because she held more value to the type of person Ronald is instead of on his looks. Ultimately she chose respect for herself, self-love, and being true to herself instead of following normal princesses and prince fairytale endings.
