In Divergent by Veronica Roth we follow the story of Tris, a young girl growing up in a world that has been set up so that when you reach a certain age, you choose a faction for which attribute best suits you. When Tris takes the test to see which faction she fits best into, she learns that she is different, and doesn't fit into any of the groups. Tori, the woman who administered Tris' test is another rebel in the novel. After seeing Tris' results and learning of the danger she is in for being divergent, she decides to help Tris, by entering fake results and letting Tris live in secret. When it is time for Tris to decide which faction she wants to live in, she chooses Dauntless, the faction of courage, bravery, and fearlessness. She meets Four there, a leader who shows sympathy for the others. He learns of Tris being Divergent and decides to help her, making him a rebel. In Dauntless, many people are chipped to be controlled unknowingly, Tris is chipped, but because she is Divergent, she is not controlled. The people controlled are ordered to kill a whole faction. Tris and Four both fake being under control, until they are caught. Four is kidnapped and Tris is ordered to be killed. While in a tank filling with water, Tris' mom comes to save her, making her another rebel in the novel. Four, who had been kidnapped and is under mind control, is controlling the simulation. They fight each other and it isn't until Tris stops fighting that Four wakes up, and they both shut down the simulation.

Tris, Four, Tori, and many other characters are all excellent examples of rebels because they resisted against their government to do what they know is right.
