-Alan Moore, Watchmen

Alan Moore is an English author who is best known for his work on comics and graphic novels. He started out by writing short comic strips for alternative zines and magazines.

Eventually, he was picked up by DC comics and became, "the first comics writer living in Britain to do prominent work in America." He bounced back and forth between working on mainstream comics and independent works up until 2009. He was unhappy with how the comic industry functioned and didn't like how much it interfered with his ability to tell stories. This led to Moore pulling out of the mainstream. He has been working as an independent writer ever since.
